Venture - Customizing the Front Page template

The Venture theme provides a custom Front Page template which is designed specifically for a front page on your site.

The goal of this template to provide a dynamic content which can be changed within your WordPress dashboard. The Front Page template consists of six sections for you to customize:

  1. Featured Content
  2. Introductory Text
  3. Featured Page
  4. Portfolio
  5. Testimonials
  6. Recent Blog Posts

Before using functionality from this template, make sure you've set a static front page on your WordPress site.

Featured Content

The Featured Content section on the Front Page template displays a slideshow of selected posts. For more information, please check a guide on how to set up the Featured Content.

Note: This feature requires Jetpack plugin installed on your website.

Introductory Text

This optional section can be used to display an introduction to your site. To add introductory text to your Front Page template, enter your text to the Front Page content area in your site dashboard:

  1. Edit your Front page.
  2. Add your introductory text to the content area.
  3. Be sure to update this page.

Featured Page

If you opt to use the Featured Page section, you will be able to showcase one or more pages on your Front Page template.

A single page can be displayed at full-width using the Regular layout, or two or more pages can be displayed using the Grid layout. The only page that cannot be selected as a Featured Page is the Blog Posts page, if your site has one.

Regular layout

To add a single Featured Page:

  1. In the Customizer, go to Theme Options → Front Page Template: Featured Page.
  2. Under Featured Page, select a page from the dropdown list. The page you choose should not have any sub-pages (child pages).
  3. Click Publish to save the changes.

Grid layout

The Grid Layout allows you to display multiple Featured Pages. This is done by selecting a page with sub-pages. The sub-pages will be displayed in a grid layout on the Front Page template.

  1. In the Customizer, go to Theme Options → Front Page Template: Featured Page.
  2. Under Featured Page, select the page from the dropdown list. To use the Grid Layout, the page you select must have sub-pages. The page you select will not be displayed in the grid, but all of its sub-pages will be.
  3. Under Section Layout, choose a two or three column layout for your grid.
  4. Click Save & Publish to save the changes.

Each page in the Grid Layout will display the title and excerpt. By default, “Read More” will appear as the text for the button under the excerpt, but you can change it to any title you want by using the More block.

Portfolio

Recent Portfolio projects can be displayed on the Front Page Template, underneath an optional section title and text.

To display Portfolio projects on your Front Page template, follow these steps:

  1. In the Customizer, go to Theme Options → Front Page Template: Portfolio.
  2. To make the Portfolio section visible, check Display Portfolio Section.
  3. Under Section Title, enter a title for your portfolio section.
  4. Under Section Content, enter a brief content for your portfolio section.
  5. Specify how many projects you want to show in this section under Number of posts to show.
  6. Click Save at the top of your screen to save the changes.

Testimonials

Up to five random testimonials can be displayed on the Front Page template. To display random Testimonials, follow these steps:

  1. In the Customizer, go to Theme Options → Front Page Template: Testimonials.
  2. Check Display Testimonials. To display a photo with each Testimonial, add it as a Featured Image to each Testimonial post.
  3. Click Publish at the top of your screen to save the changes.

Blog Posts

You can also show your most recent blog posts on the Front Page template.

To display recent blog posts, plus an optional section title and text, follow these steps:

  1. In the Customizer, go to Theme Options → Front Page Template: Blog Posts.
  2. Check Display Recent Blog Posts.
  3. By default, this section displays the title “Recent News” above the posts. You can edit this by adding your own title into the Section Title text field.
  4. Under Section Content, you can enter some text to appear above the recent blog posts.
  5. Specify how many posts you want to show under Number of posts to show.
  6. Click Publish at the top of your screen to save the changes.
